"WILD WOMAN"

This piece is also know as "March Madness" ( in honor of the college basketball tournaments that take place in March each year). The piece is 8 1/2" x 11" and was made in 2002.

My friend, Paula Golden, gave me some scrapes of wild animal fabrics that were on her sewing studio floor and that she was going to throw away. I took them home and used them for my March 2002 journal quilt for the Quilt Art Journal Quilt Project. It was first shown at the Houston International Quilt Festival.

I overlaid the fabric scraps for the background, added yarn hair, button eyes, couched body silhouette, and added beading.

"LIFE LINE"

I made this journal quilt for the Journal Quilt project on the quilt art chat list in 2003 ( http://www.quiltart.com/ ) and it was first shown at the Houston International Quilt Festival in Houston , Texas and then at several other venues . It was also chosen to be published in "creative Quilting- The Journal Quilt Project" by Karey Patterson Bresenhan. My quilt appears on page 186. ( I also had another quilt chosen to be on page 49.)

I was born with a birthmark in the palm of my left hand. As I grew older, it grew lighter.

I scanned my hand and printed it out on treated fabric and appliqued it to the background fabric, that happened to have hand all over it. I appliqued a watch to my wrist. Since my wrist are so thin, my wristwatch is always turning around like a bracelet. I quilted in my life lines.

HIGH NOON

This journal quilt is 8 1/2" x 11' and was done for the Journal quilt project and first shown at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas.

I painted cheesecloth olive green for some of the greenery, used dark brown wool roving and dark brown ultra suede for the rabbit and Angelina fiber to make the sun shine brighter.

I made a coordinating piece in red and blacks with the same rabbit. For thr red and black piece, I used a batik for the background, Angelina fibers, fancy yarns and threads and black tulle to hold every thing in place while quilting it. Both pieces are the same size.

TRAPPED

I did this small 8 1/2" x 11" journal quilt for the Journal Quilt Project and it was shown first at the Houston International Quilt Festival. I thought that it looked like the dragonfly was trapped in the netting and a friend thought it looked like is should be called "Escape". I guess it's all how you look at it.

I used a batik background, Angelina fiber for the wings, cotton lame for the body, gold mesh, silver screening, beaded wire for the antenna and beading for the eyes.

ABSTRACT SILK

I have done the Journal Quilt Project every year for the Houston International Quilt Festival. This project was started through the Quilt Art chat list on the internet : http://www.quiltart.com/
I have been on this art quilt chat list for about twelve years.

This abstract silk piece is 8 1/2" x 11' and has a batik background, rough edge applique pieces of silks and favorite old buttons.
I usually do realistic pieces and am trying to some abstracts now. I did this piece for May 2005
